Cary Spitzer "was a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). He received the AIAA 1994 Digital Avionics Award and the IEEE Centennial Medal and Millennium Medal. He was a past president of the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society"[1]. He died in 2011.
Cary Spitzer was the Author and then Editor for a series of avionics books:-
- Digital Avionics Systems (1988)
- Digital Avionics Systems: Principles and Practice (1993)
- Avionics: Elements, Software and Functions (The Avionics Handbook, Second Edition)
- Digital Avionics Handbook (3rd Ed)
The aircraft operated by Malaysia Airlines on flight MH370 was a Boeing 777. Two chapters in the Digital Avionics Handbook are therefore significant:-
- Chapter 28:Boeing B-777 Avionics Architecture, by Michael J. Morgan (Honeywell) and
- Chapter 29: Boeing B-777:: Fly-by-Wire Flight Controls, by Gregg F. Bartley (Federal Aviation Administration)
The Digital Avionics Handbook covers a range of avionics technologies in 45 chapters and is a valuable resource.
