YB Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein
Ministry of Transport
Putrajaya, 30 June 2014
Earlier today I met with YB Dato' Seri Liow Tiong Lai, the newly appointed Minister of Transport, to discuss the handover of duties and other matters relating to the leadership transition at the Ministry of Transport. After a year of helming the ministry temporarily, I am delighted to welcome YB Dato' Seri Liow Tiong Lai as the permanent Minister of Transport.
The Ministry of Transport has been and will always be one of the key Ministries in ensuring strong economic development in Malaysia especially as we progress towards becoming a high-income nation. Indeed we at MOT, have just gone through a year full of challenges of which we have successfully overcome together as a united team.
Indeed, it must be stressed that the Ministry's responsibilities are wide ranging and it goes beyond the handling of the tragic MH370 incident. Nonetheless, as my successor has mentioned previously, MH370 will remain a key priority in this Ministry under his leadership.
On that note, both myself and YB Dato' Seri Liow Tiong Lai will receive a full briefing of the latest developments regarding the search for MH370 from all the 4 ministerial sub-committees tomorrow in Parliament. As one of the new key faces involved in the search for MH370, I will be introducing YB Dato' Seri Liow to all the relevant authorities and stakeholders in China and Australia in order to ensure his smooth transition into the role.
Furthermore, I extend my full support to my fellow cabinet colleague should he require any specific assistance in the future especially with regards to MH370. I am confident that he will transition into this role seamlessly and will continue to lead MOT to greater heights.
On a final note, I would like to thank all the staff at MOT and its related agencies for giving me your undivided support in the past one year. It is my hope that all of us will continue working together, united in purpose, for the greater good of Malaysia.
