Two young Iranian men were passengers on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Both were travelling on stolen passports:-

Both were travelling to Europe via Beijing.

  • Pouria intended to travel from Beijing to Frankfurt, where his mother was living;
  • Delavar intended to travel to Copenhagen.

The following is a summary of their movements:-

Iran to Malaysia
Both men travelled from Iran to Malaysia via Qatar with a stopover in Doha.
Iranian passports were used for this part of their journey and for entry through immigration at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. That was probably on 28 February 2014.
Both men were given 90-day social visit passes.

Kuala Lumpur
Pouria had a friend called Mohammad Mallaeibasir, an 18-year old Information Technology student in Kuala Lumpur. They knew each other from high school in Tehran.
Pouria and Delavar are known to have stayed with Mallaeibasir (at least on the night prior to the flight) and did some sight-seeing around Kuala Lumpur. A photograph shows Pouria with the Petronas Towers in the background.

Mr Ali
The Iranians contacted a man called 'Mr Ali', which is clearly an alibi. This 'Mr Ali' is believed to live in Malaysia and "has links to a gang that specialises in smuggling Middle Eastern people to Europe via third countries. The ring has connections in Pattaya and the Thai resort island of Phuket."
'Mr Ali' purchased the airline tickets through a travel agent in Pattaya (Thailand). The passports had also been stolen in Thailand.

Mallaeibasir drove both Iranians to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport but they entered the airport separately, at different times, so they would not be seen together.

  • Pouria arrived at immigration counter K30 at 10:07 pm with his boarding pass for flight MH370 to Beijing, and the stolen Austrian passport.
  • Delavar arrived at immigration counter K31 at about 10:45 pm with his boarding pass for flight MH370 to Beijing, and the stolen Italian passport.

Staff at KLIA did not check the passports against an Interpol database. Therefore both men were allowed to board.

Mallaeibasir was not involved with Mr Ali or the stolen passports.

  • Pouria Mehrdad was seated in Row 30 at 30C;
  • Delavar Mohammadreza was seated in Row 34 at 34C.

About 40 minutes after departure from KLIA both men would have been alarmed by a sudden left turn as the aircraft changed course (0121:13 MYT).

Neither of these two young Iranians reached their goal of a better life in Europe.
