References: Tabloids

A tabloid traditionally referred to a newspaper with a smaller size than a broadsheet.

However, for References on this website the term tabloid refers to a group of newspapers and their online websites published in the United Kingdom in a popular style which typically use attention-grabbing headlines and content which is simply written and focussed on sensational stories or gossip.

Consequently, articles published by these tabloids may be lacking accuracy or verification and may be attributed to un-named sources, or not attributed at all.

These tabloids also re-publish articles by other papers which may be reliable, or maybe not.

Also, articles originating from any of the tabloids listed below may be re-published by other media internationally and cited as though the content is accurate. That can be misleading.

For the purposes of referencing here:-

  • articles originally published by a tabloid are attributed to the tabloid media and if re-published or cited by other media sources attempts are made to locate the primary source. The reference will be on this page. And,
  • articles re-published or quoted by the tabloid media are attributed to the primary source and referenced on the relevant page for that publisher, not here.
