Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airline System (MAS) known more commonly as Malaysia Airlines and Malaysia's national carrier, was the operator of flight MH370 which went missing on Saturday, 8 March 2014, and the operator of flight MH17 which was shot down over the Ukraine on Thursday, 17 July 2014

At the time of both these disasters, the CEO was Ahmad Jauhari Yahya. The Press Statements by Malaysia Airlines on Saturday, 8 March 2014 are not attributed until the 8th Media Statement at 02:43 pm by Ahmad Jauhari Yahya in his role as Group Chief Executive Officer (MAS)

Following these two tragedies, Malaysia Airlines suffered financially and was restructured.

The operating name of Malaysia Airlines has continued: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) refers to the Malaysia Airline Systems Berhad as it was in the time of MH370 and MH17; and Malaysia Airlines (MAB) refers to the restructured company Malaysia Airlines Berhad.

Incidents and Events


26 February 2014 - Emergency Response Exercise
Three weeks prior to MH370’s disappearance, MAS conducted a full emergency response exercise. The scenario was a 737, departing Kuala Lumpur, which then had an engine failure and crashed in the Straights of Malacca.

Saturday, 8 March 2014 - Flight MH370

Media Statements - these are provided sequentially. The Minister for Transport, Hishamuddin Hussein, took control of the media from Sunday, 23 March 2014 but in the first 100 days there were at least 34 press statements from Malaysia Airlines.
